Temik Permits

About Temik

Temik is the brand name for pesticides containing the active ingredient aldicarb. Temik products are restricted use pesticides used primarily to control mites, nematodes and insect pests in a limited number of crops. These products are closely regulated because of their toxicity to humans and animals and their potential for ground water and food crop contamination.

In Florida, Temik is used primarily on citrus, potatoes, cotton, peanuts, and soybeans. Approval from the Florida Department of Agriculture is required before any applications are made.

Temik Permit Requirements in Florida

Anyone who applies Temik (aldicarb) in Florida is required to obtain a permit from the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services for each application to be made. Permit applications may be submitted at any time prior to application, and the permit must be issued before the application is made.

Temik permits may be obtained online by means of an electronic filing process or by submitting paper permit application forms.  For instructions on obtaining a permit, go to Procedures for Obtaining a Temik Permit below.

Because Temik is a restricted use pesticide, applicators must have a Florida restricted use pesticide applicator license before approval will be granted to make Temik applications in Florida. The license type and categories must be appropriate for the site to which Temik will be applied.

Federal and state laws require anyone using Temik or any other pesticide to read and follow all label directions. Penalties for improper use of any pesticide include possible fines of up to $10,000 per violation plus suspension, revocation, or probation of pesticide applicator license.

Procedures for Obtaining a Temik Permit

To obtain a permit to apply Temik (aldicarb) in Florida, individuals must submit a completed permit application.  The application may be submitted electronically or using paper forms.

Electronic Application Process.  To file a permit application electronically, an individual must first obtain a username and password to use the online Temik permit system. To obtain a username and a password, print out a Request for Username & Password for Electronic Temik Permit Application (pdf) and mail or fax it to the Pesticide Certification Section as directed on the form.   A username and password will be emailed to the requestor along with instructions for using the online Temik permit system.  Users may change their password at any time after the initial login.

Once a username and password are obtained, individuals may access the online Temik permit system at https://sunoas.doacs.state.fl.us/forms/frmservlet?config=rts.  After logging in with the assigned username and password, permit seekers must complete a personal profile and identify sites where Temik will be applied.  Then permit applications may be submitted at any time by selecting identified sites and requesting a permit for those sites.

Approvals for permit applications submitted electronically are made online, and individuals can check the status of their permit applications by logging into the online system.   No paper permits or correspondence are mailed out.  All transactions and correspondence are handled electronically.

The electronic process has the advantage of fast delivery to FDACS, quick approval by FDACS, and accurate and permanent online record keeping for Temik applicators and FDACS.

Paper Application Process.  Individuals who prefer to file a paper permit application should print out an Application for Permit to Apply Aldicarb (Temik) (pdf) and submit the completed application to the Pesticide Certification Section as directed on the form.   Paper permit applications are generally processed within two days of receipt and approved permits are mailed out to permit applicants.

Time Frames for Temik Permits

Application of Temik may begin as soon as a permit is approved and a "DACS" (approval) number is received.  There is no longer a 10 day waiting period after a permit application is submitted for application to start.

Temik can be applied to citrus only between November 15 and April 30, so permit applications received outside this period will be approved to start the following November.  Permits for application of Temik to citrus are approved for a maximum time period of 5 1/2 months (November 15 - April 30).

Permits for application of Temik to crops other than citrus (potatoes, peanuts, cotton, soybeans, sorghum, and pecans) are approved for 6-month periods and may be issued at any time of year.

Permit applicants must wait until the permit has been approved and a "DACS" (approval) number is received before applying Temik in Florida.  Temik can only be applied at approved, permitted sites.

Recordkeeping Requirements for Temik Permits

Individuals who obtain Temik permits are required to keep the approved permit and any associated attachments (maps, well construction documentation, etc.) for two years.   Permit records must be made available to authorized FDACS representatives upon request for review, photocopying, and/or photographing.  Upon request for review by an authorized FDACS representative, individuals who have obtained electronic permits using the online system may either print out a copy of the permit from the web site or make the web site and permit screens available to the FDACS representative on computer.
